Blood in the water addresses the mob mentality that can form when a platform is given to oppressors. False narratives are written and individuals are often scapegoated. Ironically though, it’s not long before many bridges are burned, and sometimes the crowd realises they have the power to rise against the oppressor and change the narrative.
This was the first track written for the record, and became a setlist regular prior to Dan Brittain joining the band.
lyrics
I haven’t seen your face before, but I know that you've memorised mine,
Striking from your hiding place, attacking me from behind,
The validation you seek from the world, a facade I just can’t understand,
False logic shadows everything that you do, you’ll die by your own callous hands
Watching on from the distance you lurk in the darkness and wait for revenge,
Just to find you’ve become what you’ve always condemned,
All this time you’d manipulate words but no more can the faceless pretend,
No escape for the truth will prevail in the end,
CHORUS:
We will rise, stand together,
Fight as one, and turn the tables on you,
Time has come, to sink this ship of fools,
There's blood in the water,
And you're going down with the crew,
Your pedestal broken from the weight of the world, its twisted, contorted and bent,
All bridges burned now you’re out on your own, with no one to call you a friend,
What once was mistaken as truth, exposed as deception and lies,
Cause for he who first casteth the stone, will meet his infernal demise,
Once enslaved with invisible chains like a prisoner but never again,
No longer masquerading as self-righteous men,
No more fear, we’ve become mutineers, and you can’t play the victim this time,
Bound and broken you’re walking the end of the line,
(CHORUS)

So I can't leave a long enough review to say everything I want. But I will say this, I love this EP. It's a great little follow up to times, and has just enough of a dynamic shift in sound to prove that Smoulder isn't a one trick pony with their first album's formula. This one really plays up the 70s prog aspects (DUST and Manilla Road influences definitely shine through even harder here). It's still Smoulder, don't get me wrong. Just a different side in some ways, all of which are good. playfulpooka

If Elric had a soundtrack it would be this. It's everything you want from a epic metal album. Like a hot poker in the eye, but in a good way. Scott Malthouse
