The background story with the lyrics is reminiscent of an ancient, sci-fi theme. It centres around some sort of diabolical sorceress practicing human sacrifice to discover the keys to whatever insane outcome she is seeking. However, she instead returns from her death as a slave.
The music for this track was written by Stu in collaboration with Dan Brittain for his solo album prior to him joining Silent Knight. The band then decided to resurrect and tailor it a little more to its power metal leanings when writing for the record
lyrics
The prince called her name,
As revelations of unholy black flame,
Began to turn her world strange,
Shining black a fool to seek,
Entering the minds and souls of the weak,
Destroying you piece by piece,
CHORUS:
You'll get as good as you gave, oh gypsy, tongue of snake,
You will return as a slave (begging for longer chains)
At the end of your days, when you're beyond the grave,
You will return as a slave (now rise from your grave)
Offerings are burned in occult rites,
Their deaths are praised a sacrifice,
Immolation, libation, and flames,
Trapped on this plane of constant plight,
Desperate to find the key to this life,
In these dark and mysterious times,
(CHORUS)
BRIDGE:
Her spirit is crying to return,
The soul is laughing as it burns,
She's carried away on ancient wings,
To be with the king of hell himself,
(CHORUS)
(BRIDGE)

So I can't leave a long enough review to say everything I want. But I will say this, I love this EP. It's a great little follow up to times, and has just enough of a dynamic shift in sound to prove that Smoulder isn't a one trick pony with their first album's formula. This one really plays up the 70s prog aspects (DUST and Manilla Road influences definitely shine through even harder here). It's still Smoulder, don't get me wrong. Just a different side in some ways, all of which are good. playfulpooka

If Elric had a soundtrack it would be this. It's everything you want from a epic metal album. Like a hot poker in the eye, but in a good way. Scott Malthouse
