Based on themes of haunted nightmares and sleep paralysis, Into Oblivion centres around a character who has to navigate their way through a game-like maze that appears in recurring dreams. Their inner voice urges them to turn inwards to find clues within their dreams, providing the key that guides them back to the present when the nightmare takes over.
lyrics
Lost in a dream beneath the darkness of the night,
From within sleep you feel the shadows come alive,
An inner scream cries out from deep inside your mind,
And it’s calling out your name,
Reality is no escape from ties that bind,
You go to sleep and reawaken terrified,
Try to make sense of this consciousness,
But the nightmare never ends,
Staring into the void, and fear is all that you feel,
Surrounded by illusions, and you can’t see what is real
You go to sleep lost in dreams, and awake paralysed,
Still these demons keep haunting your dreams every night,
CHORUS:
In this void you fear there’s no escaping,
Don’t forget this world is what you make it,
Dreams will hold the key, it’s yours to take it,
Fear is an illusion, time to break it,
Into the dark, into oblivion, into the dark, into oblivion,
Trapped in this maze again, and caged within your mind,
You try to wake, but you can’t race the hands of time,
Your destiny is calling, take control of life,
Cause you won’t escape the game,
Don’t fear my friend, this isn’t the end,
Just a nightmare from which you’re now awakened,
So find your strength, find your confidence,
When it pulls you back again,
Staring beyond the void, when fear is all that you feel,
No longer bound by illusions, now that you see what is real,
So when you sleep cast your fear, embrace the darkness of night,
And seek the truth because there’ll be no shadows without light,
(CHORUS)
Take me into the dark, into oblivion,

So I can't leave a long enough review to say everything I want. But I will say this, I love this EP. It's a great little follow up to times, and has just enough of a dynamic shift in sound to prove that Smoulder isn't a one trick pony with their first album's formula. This one really plays up the 70s prog aspects (DUST and Manilla Road influences definitely shine through even harder here). It's still Smoulder, don't get me wrong. Just a different side in some ways, all of which are good. playfulpooka
If Elric had a soundtrack it would be this. It's everything you want from a epic metal album. Like a hot poker in the eye, but in a good way. Scott Malthouse
