The 101st Airborne Division (code named ‘Screaming Eagles’) were an air assault unit that played a significant role in the D-Day landings during World War II. Their mobile capabilities earned them a fearsome reputation as the US Army’s ‘tip of the spear’. This provided great lyrical inspiration when it came to describing the intense energy when we come together as a band, and the bombastic nature of the sound we aim to capture.
lyrics
A cry from in the distance, breaks the silence of the dawn,
By strength of force, bloodstained and scarred we reach the battle zone,
The rise of a resistance, the siren sounds for war,
To raid the shores, the reign of operation overlord
Above the eagle watches on, he’s the master of the skies,
Don’t try to flee, don’t try to run,
Cause when he gets you in his sight, you’ll never make it alive...
We’re the hundred first division, the revolutions greatest foe
Our mission states to send them straight to Armageddon below,
Outnumbered but relentless, retribution we’ll bestow,
With Precision trained guns cocked
and aimed and we’re ready to blow
The millions gather upon the hill, like horsemen side by side,
We hold position and fire at will, when we hear the piercing cry,
CHORUS:
Screaming eagle, you are the one who guides me,
The time has come, now be the one to set me free,
Screaming eagle, the feeling so exciting,
On wings of steel, call out to me,
Bring down the fists of tyranny,
With force of ammunition, and enemy in sight,
We infiltrate, and storm the gates, for their ending is nigh,
We’ve brought them to submission, invaded from inside,
Initiate, exterminate behind enemy lines,
We’ll bring the empire unto its knees, and liberation to the land
Strike with a vengeance until they bleed, and devastate on his command,
(CHORUS)
The eagle strikes in the middle of the night,
When you hear his cry, you’ll be running for your lives,
As he rises over his power grows,
The last one standing but never alone,
So with gun in hand, he screams his last command
“All fire: open your wings and blow... open your wings and blow!”
(CHORUS)

So I can't leave a long enough review to say everything I want. But I will say this, I love this EP. It's a great little follow up to times, and has just enough of a dynamic shift in sound to prove that Smoulder isn't a one trick pony with their first album's formula. This one really plays up the 70s prog aspects (DUST and Manilla Road influences definitely shine through even harder here). It's still Smoulder, don't get me wrong. Just a different side in some ways, all of which are good. playfulpooka

If Elric had a soundtrack it would be this. It's everything you want from a epic metal album. Like a hot poker in the eye, but in a good way. Scott Malthouse
